ABOUT WALTER P. STRUBCZEWSKI
Walter was born on September 7, 1927 and raised in
Dayton, Ohio. He enlisted
in the US Navy in 1945
at the age of 17 and served for four years. He was discharged as
Quartermaster 3rd Class and
returned
to Dayton to complete high
school. Walter then enrolled at the University of Dayton and the College of
the Dayton Art Institute on the GI
Bill. He graduated in 1954 with a BFA from the University of Dayton
and received a second BFA from the College of the Dayton Art Institute in 1974.
For 27 years, Walter was employed as
Art Director at
Kircher, Helton &
Collett
Advertising Agency in
Dayton. Upon leaving KH&C, he was employed at
Hobart Corporation in Troy
designing in-house
campaigns. During all his years of employment and after retiring, Walter has
maintained an art studio,
working in all mediums and styles as a fine artist.
Walter’s work has been exhibited at the Dayton Art Institute, Springfield Art
Association,
Harriet Crane Gallery, Blair
House, Pewter Mug and at the Ohio State Fair. He has received many
awards including a Clio in 1977. His work has been purchased by many
private collectors including
Daniel Waldstein, Dudley Kircher and Phillip Kielawa.
Walter has been a member of and held office in
Art Center Dayton, the Dayton
Advertising Club, and
the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors.
As for leisurely pursuits, Walter continues to play tennis and ski.
He is a long time member of Dayton
Ski & Board Club and participated on the racing team for many years and
“brought home the gold”.
Walter has been married to Ann Wolff Leigh for twenty years and had one
daughter,Toni, now deceased. |
